On the way home from our Bible study this evening the children were discussing who could and who could not make rain. Sadie and Bradford both declared they could. The discussion may have gone on, but I was alternately talking with Mark and telling Patie not to choke on Bradford’s party mix. Then I heard the Twinkles practicing a memory verse: “Peace, be still!” And again my attention was arrested by Patie’s choking. A few more miles down the road we heard Sadie exclaim “Can Joey stop the rain? Noooo. But Sadie can.”
She was having trouble with basic truth today. In Sunday School she declared, hands on hips, that she was NOT a sinner. Mrs. Lutz corrected that one for us—it’s why she gets paid so well to teach the 2 and 3 year olds. And so convinced was she of this fact that the very first thing out of her mouth when she awakened from her nap was “Jesus died on the cross. For sinners.”
And now, after having tried to stop the rain, she realizes that only God can stop it.
Spring news update: My poplar is budding.
