the Thompsons Practice Hospitality

I know it’s bad to use one version of the Bible because you like the wording better, but in this case, I can’t help it.  My preferred version says “be given to hospitality”, but another says to “practice hospitality.”  At this point, I’d say we’re practicing.  Today we practiced on a few church friends who are interested in beginning an ESL program.

Taylor is a long-time friend of Bradford, so we were happy to practice on him.  I think Bradford first became interested in Taylor because Taylor owns and races a fast car.  He brought it to a pinewood derby a couple years ago and let the boys climb in, and Bradford was mesmerized.  Taylor is also an engineer who designs circuit boards (or something engineery like that), and he watched while Bradford took apart his calculator one Sunday and then talked with him about the circuit board inside it.  We often see Bradford sitting by Taylor in the fellowship hall.  Today Taylor had not been in our house three minutes before Bradford brought him his bin of dead electronic parts (you know, the things he broke and subsequently took apart).  It was amusing to listen to Taylor the real engineer patiently explain all the different parts and pieces to Bradford the engineer-in-the-making.  More amusing was to learn Taylor plays harmonica.  Well, if Bradford needs an engineer role-model, Taylor is his guy.  Taylor fervently loves God, dresses in coordinating clothes (unusual for an engineering type), and he is unfalteringly polite.

Other guests were Judy the former missionary to Bethlehem, Margie the Kindergarten teacher, and Linda the tax consultant.  God has placed it on their hearts to work with Spanish-speaking people, so we’ll see what God does in and through them as they work together on this project.

Note to self:  Do not put the three boys at a table alone for long periods of time.  They get giggly.  and a bit loud.

Oops:  forgot to put one of the side dishes on the table!

Aaah:  got to know a little more about each of these wonderful people.

Your hospitality is productive for the Lord. You are providing "land" where "ideas" can come to fruition, i.e. bear fruit.
