We are trying to figure out what light to put in our dining room. It used to be the living room, and when the living room traded places with the dining room, the ceiling fan stayed behind to remind us of its past. Ceiling fans are great in some places, but above the dining room table is not one of them. Finally, we moved the ceiling fan into the living room, but the gold chandelier that was our living room light was not an option for our dining room, because we just aren't a gold chandelier kind of family.
Anyway, we've now purchased four lights, taken back two, and are deciding which of the two sitting on our table should be hung above it. Hmmm. Big decision.
Mark suggested I upload photos of the lights to facebook and take a poll. Great idea! Now the husband of one of my Facebook friends is an artsy guy, taught art, etc, and I really wanted his opinion. I was very close to calling her today so she and Tripp could look at the photos for us. But there was no need to do that, because we saw him at the grocery store, and of course I showed him the pictures.
He asked a very important question: "Is your dining room traditional?" Because if it was a non-traditional dining room, then the more trendy wheat light (by far the favorite of the kids) might look great.
Well, let's see. Our dining room is in what most people would make the living room, it's the current home of our aquarium with pet frogs, has guitars hanging from the walls along with the pictures, and the hutch shelves hold tea pots, sturdy dishes, and Nate's pottery rather than fine china. It also houses an overstuffed arm chair and the girls' wooden play oven. I think those things qualify it for the non-traditional label.
But we still need to decide. Everyone voting on Facebook has said the 9-bulb, 2-tier light, and our kids and possibly 1 friend vote for the wheat light. Which will it be...
On a slightly different theme, our new kitchen lights look wonderful. It was worth looking at an empty wire, a gross chandelier, and a naked flourescent light for three years, because now we really appreciate the difference our new lights have made.
I'm motivated to make my curtains now. Oooo.
And maybe next year we'll finish the trim.
