The Twins Officially Turn Three (and Grace Five, and Nate Eight)

The twins now believe they are three years old, because they have gone to Starbucks with Uncle Jerry.  Our cozy group of thirteen had a corner to itself, and we had a great time.  Patie had her first experience with iced lemon pound cake, chai tea, and whipped cream.  Once my mother had her caffeined and sugared up, she announced that Patie was grumpy and needed a nap.  So we let the older generation go back home to recuperate while Patie went down for a late morning nap.  On the way out of Starbucks my father asked one of the twins how old she was, and she said “two.”  So we let them know that they were three now, and all the way home we heard “I’m three now!” coming from the back of the van.

Later we had lunch and gifts and another swim and dessert at my parents’ house.  A full, happy day.  Nate got his trumpet, but it took second stage to the pottery wheel and clay, which is all he wanted.  He did try the trumpet out later, and his tone on a couple of notes wasn’t horrible.  The girls got enough bath and beauty supplies to last a year, and we ended the day with a candlelight bubble bath.

Now I’m in bed after a tiring day of birthday celebrations.  Mark is out and about exchanging furnace filters and buying a few groceries.  I will look back on this, our first and probably only quadruple birthday party as a lovely day with friends and family—we are so blessed.
