Here it is: my new house. Although the outside doesn't look too bad--even nice, and although the inside has hints of previous care, it reeks of cat urine and neglect.
The view as you walk in the front door. Not bad, you may think, it's got wood floors in good condition. But the smell of cat urine is in the air, the paint job is terrible, and if you go just a bit further in, the facade stops.
The kitchen and breakfast room boast failing vinyl floors, an original dishwasher, stark white knobs, an outdated wallpaper border, cheery cherry window art, and paint of the color "tired." Other than that, it isn't too bad.
Two of the three bedrooms. Surely the reason the third bedroom isn't shown is because the photographer couldn't figure out how to cover his nose and mouth while taking the shot. Nasty, nasty carpet is not cleanable and must be replaced.
What isn't pictured is the back yard. One acre of land this little house sits on, and most of it is wooded in the back. The lot to the left of it is empty and owned by the same person who owns the house on 14 acres behind our house. Peaceful. Oh, so peaceful. I think I'll require a rocking chair be left on the back deck for me so I can enjoy that beautiful, beautiful view on occasion.
Our renter, for surely we already have one, has already chosen colors for the rooms. In the matter of a thing as easy to change as paint color, we are giving in completely to the wishes of the ones who will be looking at it day after day. More permanent features, such as the flooring, we must agree on, but the taste shown thus far in color choices and flooring samples is promising a happy resolution to the upcoming decisions.
After the inspection I'll have an update on what's happening at our Little House on Pine.
