GracElizabeth's 1st Birthday

Grace's day began when Bradford retrieved her from her crib with a cheery "Happy Birthday, Sweet Darling."

The boys spent most of the morning climbing the huge tree that was blown down by Katrina. Grace spent the morning trying to figure out her new beaded socks.

Her party this evening was fun. Grandma and Grandpa brought two cousins, plus our neighbor friends came over. We gave her a small cupcake and watched while she made funny faces and a mess, and then we all ate our cupcakes. It was simple and perfect, except daddy was missing. Why? Because he was, um, examining the inside of the toilet bowl. Food poisoning, evidently.

The before and after party activity was tree climbing. Lots of fun, and even Grandpa couldn't resist its branches. My kingdom for a camera! How often do I get to see a 75-year old man climbing a tree?!

Hurricane update for us... the projected path was basically right on top of us, but Katrina turned and went down the coast to Miami instead. Not a single shingle came off our roof, although every house around us with an older roof lost some. Nothing worse than a few extra leaves was on our property. I'll probably need to water my plants tomorrow, since we didn't get much rain. We had no power outages for more than a few seconds. Praise God.

Happy Birthday, sweet darling GracE.

See you soon (hopefully), Jeni. I'm glad you, too, were spared any damage by the hurricane.
